Drunk Girls On…Food: James Kitchen 大隱酒食

Probably one of the most expensive dinners we had, but certainly one of the best tasting! James Kitchen 大隱酒食 serves traditional Taiwanese home cooking. It is one of those Lonely Planet favourites, which means it’s overrun with tourists, but if you can overlook this in favour of delicious food then this is the spot for you.

For approx. 300-400ntd per person, you can get a decent amount of food that will tickle your tastebuds. Our recommendations include the oyster and garlic bread sticks, as well as turnip omelette to share, and a fried onion rice for each person.

Just from experience, we suggest avoiding the chicken roll, it’s attractive in photos and in price, but to us, it just came across to be a glorified battered sausage. If our time in Taiwan has taught us anything, it’s that chicken isn’t used often in cooking, and it was rare we found a chicken dish we enjoyed.

James Kitchen is located in Dongmen, an area we believed to be overrated until we tried this place.
