Drunk Girls On…Food: Stand 立

Stand 立 is a very cool and snazzy yakitori bar that you have to go to for the sake of their saké. Yakitori bars are great for post work drinks and snacks and even a great start to an evening out, you would probably need to order/spend a lot to consider this place for dinner, but my god it’s worth it.

Stand 立 has a buy 3 get 1 free offer for their saké, which approximately is 150ntd a ‘jug’-I use the term jug lightly as there isn’t a tremendous amount given to you, as you’ll find with most saké bars, but then that emphasises how much of a delicacy the whole experience is. In total that works out as 450ntd, but there were other types of saké available with varying prices. We recommend you get the saké hot, perfect for those chilly Taipei winter months!

The yakitori on offer was vast, with each stick of meat/veg ranging from 40-80ntd. Our favourites were the beef and the cheese wrapped in chicken. There are plenty of fancy combinations (the cheese wrapped in chicken being a perfect example) but make sure you get to sample some of their more basic options like the beef, it’s seasoned to perfection and you won’t regret it!

Finding information online about this place isn’t an easy feat, they have a positively surreal Facebook page that doesn’t really provide much information but has a wonderful selection of videos of dogs and the occasional Britney Spears photo. There are two branches of Stand, we went to the Zhongxiao Dunhua branch, however, the Zhongxiao Fuxing branch appears to be slightly more popular.

Make sure you go in armed with Google Translate or Chinese speakers, as their menu in-house is Chinese, and make sure there are 4 of you to take advantage of the saké deal!
